History
Anne Price requested that a committee be established in December, 1992, to study the pros and cons of restructuring Mu Chapter. Pat Kent was asked to chair this committee. As a result of the fine work of this committee, Gamma Zeta Chapter was chartered on October 19, 1993, becoming the 78th chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in Pi State.
There were 30 charter members of Gamma Zeta: Eloise Ackerson, Marian Babcock, Lorraine Barker, Helen Beyea, Jeannette Cammen, Carol Case, Barbara Cook, Jeanne Corcoran, Rose Darcangelo, Jean Griffin, Ruth Haradon, Bonny Helm, Virginia Homan, Catherine Hoxie, Cindy Hunt, Patricia Kent, Margaret King, Josephine Kresge, Lois Lane, Diane Masters, Ruth McCollough, Jean Parker, Audrey Phelps, Anne Price, Janet Richardson, Betsey Stiker, Margaret Telian, Ethelea Wardner, Frances Webb, and Janet Young. The chapter was installed at The Lodge on the Green by Kathy Olinger, Pi State President.
The original officers of the chapter were: Pat Kent, president; Lorraine Barker, first vice-president; Anne Price, second vice-president; Audrey Phelps, corresponding secretary; Carol Case, recording secretary; Diane Masters, treasurer; and Ruth Haradon, parliamentarian.
The first meeting of Gamma Zeta was held on November 20, 1993 at The Lodge on the Green. The agenda included membership, standing rules, and special project work to promote reading at "Sparkle," Corning's December celebration on Market Street. Our booth was to be in front of The Golden Unicorn, and we would give away pamphlets promoting reading, and would sell cider and children's paperbacks by Dover.
The second meeting was held on March 16, 1994 at the CFA Media Center. This meeting had been preceded by a prospective members' informational tea on March 8 at The Lodge on the Green. At the second meeting, Sheila Mahady, president of Beta Chi Chapter, was our speaker. The slate of officers for the next biennium, '94 - '96, was presented as follows: Lorraine Barker, president; Jean Griffin, first vice-president; Anne Price, second vice-president; Carol Case, recording secretary; and Audrey Phelps, corresponding secretary. Diane Masters would continue as treasurer.
Our third meeting, May 14, 1994, was held at the Christ Church Parish House in Corning. At this meeting nine new members were initiated in Gamma Zeta.
